Methods

Our technician will assess the damage to your bumper prior to making a decision of how to proceed.  He will then make the decision if the bumper can be saved or if a new one must be ordered.  If a bumper repair can be made, there are three methods to choose from.

  • Heat and Pop Method – This is the preferred method to repair a bumper.   It preserves your paint and the structural integrity and is for minor bumper dents where the paint is left intact.
  • Sand, Patch and Repaint Method – If your bumper shows more serious damage, such as dents, scratches, scuffs or cracks, then there will be a bit more work involved.  The bumper will need to be sanded down, primered and repainted.  In some cases an application of bondo to the damaged area is needed.
  • Plastic Weld Method – If your bumper has a crack in it, it may still be possible to repair using a plastic welder.  This process is similar to welding on metal.  This is a practical approach for small cracks, but larger cracks will require a bumper replacement.
